I put my desk facing the wall in my office. This leaves room for people to come in and meet. Most of the people where I work have their desks in the middle of the room. You have to look across their desk at them when you go in to talk.
I feel like I am going in to see the Principal when people have their desks like that. When you put your desk against the wall, you are inviting people to come in and share your space. Unless you are trying to intimidate people, put your desk against the wall.
